What happens
Lieutenant Thomas J. Baker, recently discharged from the US Navy after a medical dismissal, is approached in Honolulu by Mr. Lee, an unofficial representative of the Chinese government, who offers him command of a Chinese submarine to fight the Japanese invaders near the Yangtze River. Baker accepts on his own terms, hiring two former shipmates, Chuck Young and Jimmy Mann, and takes charge of an ancient submarine crewed largely by Chinese farmers who cannot understand English. Preparing the boat for action, Baker wrestles with its poor condition, bad equipment and failing batteries. The episode is set in 1938 and aired on Escape on 1951-08-08, with Hi Everback in the lead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
