What happens

An occupation GI, Sergeant Ed Sawyer, kills a woman named Greta in Berlin after a bitter quarrel and then sees the crime turned against him. He goes to a music hall where a mind-reading act, Stanley and Mona, performs, and he meets Morna backstage. A shroud and a wreath arrive at his door with an order for his funeral, and a fat mortician appears in his room claiming Sawyer is about to be executed for murder. Sawyer begins to suspect that someone is building a trap around him, and the story follows his desperate attempts to find out who is behind it.

Berlin in the aftermath of the war, during the occupation, including a rooming house, a theatre, and a hotel

Characters: Sergeant Ed Sawyer, Greta, Stanley, Mona, Morna, Joseph Scahn

Listen for: Sawyer's attempt to strangle Stanley backstage and Mona's blind reaction to it

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
