What happens

Ronald Dawson, a second-class passenger from Cedar Rapids, goes ashore at Mozambique with his shipmates Miss Patterson, Jones and Twitchell. Dawson agrees to return to a restaurant for a bronze idol Miss Patterson has left behind, but a sudden tropical rainstorm leaves him lost in the dark back alleys of the town. He stumbles into a room where a group of men and a sultry woman named Marlene are arguing, and he soon finds himself caught up in their trouble with the police. This episode of Escape, the series' 1949 broadcast, presents the story as written by Percival Gibbon and dramatised with Parley Baer in the lead role.

Mozambique, Southeast Africa, in the native quarter and back alleys of the town

Characters: Ronald Dawson, Miss Patterson, Jones, Twitchell, Marlene

Listen for: The sudden tropical rainstorm and Dawson's growing realisation that he is hopelessly lost in the dark alleys

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
