What happens

David, a confidential agent from a country at war, arrives in Dover with a secret mission to buy industrial diamonds needed for war tools. Men working for a rival known only as the Baron try to kill him, and he meets Rose Cullen, daughter of Lord Bendage, who offers to drive him to London. Once in the city, David finds his contact dead in a house on Mallon End and must flee from the Baron's men. Later he goes to Lord Bendage's house to negotiate for the diamonds, but his credentials have vanished. This episode of the Escape radio series first aired on April 2, 1949, adapted from the Graham Greene story Confidential Agent, with Barry Kroger starring as David.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
