What happens
Christopher Warner has brought a live bushmaster, one of the deadliest snakes in the world, from Venezuela aboard the liner Chiang-K, bound for New York. Captain Wood reluctantly allows the crate to be stored in his cabin under strict precautions. When a heavy storm damages the ship and the snake's box is found broken and empty, the crew must search the vessel while passengers grow frightened. Warner and the captain struggle to decide how much to tell the passengers as the search continues through the night. This is an episode of the radio series Escape, broadcast in 1948 and starring Harry Bartell as Warner.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
