What happens
Cynthia Winship and her mother arrive in Paris during the great Exposition and check into the Grand Hotel Universel. When Mrs. Winship collapses, a doctor sends Cynthia across the city for medicine, and her ordeal begins. Cynthia returns to find the hotel denying that her mother ever stayed there, and the doctor and staff insisting she is mistaken. Bruce Stanley, an Englishman, becomes her ally as she struggles to prove what happened and convince others that she is not mad. Escape is the series heard here, and this episode, The Vanishing Lady, was broadcast nationally on February 1, 1948, produced and directed by William N. Robeson. The plot is presented as a conspiracy that seems to deny the reality of events.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
