What happens

Eddie Block, a successful New Orleans band leader, walks into a police station at four in the morning and confesses to killing a man he knows only as Papa Benjamin. Block insists that the old man was killing him through a curse, and he asks the sergeant to take him to the alley where the old man lives. The episode is an adaptation of William Irish's story Papa Benjamin, broadcast on the Escape series on January 24, 1948. Frank Lovejoy plays Eddie Block in this production.

New Orleans, in the French Quarter and near Congo Square, with scenes at a police station and at Maxim's nightclub

Characters: Eddie Block, Sergeant Tolliver, Commissioner, Judy Jarvis, Johnny Stats, Papa Benjamin

Listen for: Eddie Block's account of how the trouble began at Maxim's, and the voodoo ritual he witnessed in the upstairs room

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
