What happens
Eddie Bloch, a popular band leader, walks into a New Orleans police station and confesses to killing a frail old man he calls Papa Benjamin. Bloch insists the old man was killing him by supernatural means, and the officers begin to question his account. The story follows Bloch's struggle with a woman's shifting attention and the strange events that followed his first visit to a dark building near Congo Square. The episode is an adaptation of a William Irish story, broadcast on the Escape series on January 21, 1948, with Frank Lovejoy in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
