What happens
Big game hunter Sanger Rainsford falls overboard from a yacht sailing near Ship Trap Island in the Caribbean and swims ashore. He finds a remote chateau where General Zaroff, a wealthy aristocrat, welcomes him and explains his private sport: hunting human beings who have been stranded on the island. Zaroff offers Rainsford a three-day head start in a game of hunt and escape, with only a small pistol and a knife. This episode of Escape is adapted from Richard Connell's story The Most Dangerous Game, with Paul Frees as Rainsford and Hans Conried as Zaroff, and first aired on October 1, 1947.
A remote Caribbean island called Ship Trap Island, with dense jungle, a swamp and a cliff-top chateau.
Characters: Sanger Rainsford, General Zaroff, Whitney, Ivan, Yvonne
Listen for: Zaroff's calm, courteous talk about hunting as sport, and the sounds of the hounds closing in on Rainsford.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
