What happens
Archie, the manager of Duffy's Tavern, is grumpy on Christmas Eve, bitter that his employer Duffy has given him only a cheap card and no raise. Archie grumbles to Eddie and his friends, who all seem more interested in their own plans than in him. Later a mysterious stranger walks into the tavern and begins a conversation with Archie about the meaning of Christmas, leading the two out into the night. The series' ensemble cast includes Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth and Florence Halop, and this episode originally aired on December 22, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
