What happens
Archie, the loud and scheming manager of Duffy's Tavern, has invited the distinguished English actor Arthur Treacher to deliver a lecture on men's fashions to a policemen's club meeting at the tavern. Archie, who has written the lecture himself, shows off his own dapper new suit while Duffy mocks it, and the regulars, including Finnegan and the chef Panyas Slavnik, add their own remarks. Treacher arrives, is greeted with teasing, and the evening's lecture gets underway. This is the Duffy's Tavern radio comedy from the 1951 season, broadcast in the Duffy's Tavern series with Ed Gardner in the lead, first aired 1951-02-23.
Duffy's Tavern, a neighborhood bar
Characters: Archie, Duffy, Arthur Treacher, Finnegan, Clancy, Panyas Slavnik
Listen for: Archie's attempts to write and deliver a lecture on men's fashions, and Arthur Treacher's dry, stiff replies
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
