What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads aloud from a comic weekly, and the opening strips are presented. Bringing Up Father shows Jiggs struggling to open a barrel his wife Maggie has had set on the porch, unaware of what it holds. Roy Rogers, King of the Cowboys, finds a broken mechanical cowboy hanging from a tree and meets his friend Cubby, who has set up a laboratory in an old barn. Walt Disney's Sword in the Rose follows Charles Brandon, who rescues Princess Mary and faces the Duke of Buckingham at the seashore. Flash Gordon, having landed on a new planet, speaks with a hermit named Philo who warns him about a city of doom. The second section features Dagwood and his friends cleaning Eddie's house in a hurry, Donald Duck's nephews finding an odd curling gadget at the dump, and Dick's Adventures with Samuel Morse painting President Monroe's portrait. Rusty Riley finds himself suspected of stealing a string of pearls.
A comic-strip reading program on old-time radio, with various strip stories set in a house, the American West, medieval England, a distant planet, the early United States, a farm, and a city dump.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Miss Honey, Jiggs, Maggie, Roy Rogers, Cubby, Charles Brandon, Sir Edwin Caskidon
Listen for: The Comic Weekly Man's riddle about adding ten to nothing, and the sound effects of Jiggs's barrel and Dagwood's cleaning spree.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
