What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads the funnies from Puck the Comic Weekly to his young listeners, opening with a short chat with Miss Honey about Christmas surprises. He then reads a run of comic strips, beginning with Hopalong Cassidy, where Hoppy confronts Meeker, who has been selling guns to Indians, and finds himself trapped in a freight office as a war party approaches Pike's Landing. Other strips follow, including Flash Gordon on Mars, Prince Valiant preparing for a Danish attack, Snuffy Smith, Donald Duck, Dick Lewis and Clark's expedition, Rusty Riley, Dagwood and Blondie, and Roy Rogers. Each cliffhanger is left for the next week's reading.
Puck the Comic Weekly, read aloud by the Comic Weekly Man in a living room, with comic strip settings including the Old West, Mars, King Arthur's era, the Missouri River in 1804, and an English country estate.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Miss Honey, Hopalong Cassidy, Meeker, Black John, Flash Gordon, Queen Mentor, Link
Listen for: The Comic Weekly Man reading each strip's dialogue and captions aloud, with his musical cues and the cliffhanger endings promised for next week.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
