What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads the comics aloud to a child named Honey, opening with a riddle about a boy who wears his pants out. He then reads the funnies, starting with Beetle Bailey, where Beetle and his friend Bami are working in an army camp kitchen. Beetle sweeps the floor and dumps the scraps into the cook's soup pot, causing trouble at lunch. The program then moves on to comic strips featuring Walt Disney's Sword and the Rose, Flash Gordon, Roy Rogers, Dick's Adventures, Rusty Riley, Dagwood and Blondie, and Donald Duck. Each strip is read in turn, with the story continuing on from earlier episodes.
A comic-reading program on old-time radio, with various comic strip stories set in army camps, medieval England, outer space, the American West, California during the gold rush, and suburban homes.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Honey, Beetle Bailey, Bami, Captain, Cookie, Princess Mary, Charles Brandon
Listen for: The Comic Weekly Man reading comic strips aloud, with dramatized voices and sound effects for each strip.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
