What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen set out to get George a role as a wolf in a new Betty Grable picture. Gracie has persuaded a movie producer that George is an irresistible lady-killer, and the news is announced on the radio. George is flattered and begins to take the attention seriously, while Gracie and Meredith Willson work to convince him the public wants him. Fan letters pile up and crowds gather at the house. Gracie, worried that George is losing his sense of proportion, turns to producer Jessel for help. The story is part of the Burns and Allen radio series, broadcast in November 1945 on CBS and NBC with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc.

The Burns home in Hollywood, with visits to a film studio and the NBC newsroom.

Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Betty Grable, Bill Goodwin, Meredith Willson, Georgie Jessel, Dick Joy

Listen for: Gracie's fan-letter reading, the news bulletin about the crowds outside the Burns house, and George's increasingly grand reactions to his new fame.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
