What happens
George Burns and Gracie Allen star in this episode of the Burns and Allen radio comedy, first broadcast on June 2, 1949, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc among the cast. Gracie becomes fascinated with magic after seeing magician Chester Morris perform, and she goes to his home hoping he will teach her his tricks. Morris is unimpressed by her claims of magical knowledge, and her talk of Indian travel and famous escapes gets her into trouble. George joins Morris in a scheme to teach his wife a lesson about lying, and the plan leads to a series of mix-ups around the house.
A Hollywood-era household of the Burns family, and the home of magician Chester Morris, in the 1940s.
Characters: Gracie Allen, George Burns, Chester Morris, Bill Goodwin, Bosco, Mrs. Morris, Toby Reed
Listen for: Gracie's confused claims about magic words and famous escapes, and the scene where she believes she has turned Chester Morris into a dog.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
