What happens

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello play two bumbling pals who look for work. Costello's brother-in-law type friend Costello hears about a nuts and bolts factory job where, as Abbott explains, the worker is paid for doing nothing. Their talk turns to a red-headed woman named Pilot Light, whose family claims grand connections. Costello then tries selling spot remover for Chief Schmo's Indian Remedy Company, a door-to-door job that quickly goes wrong. The transcript ends partway through, with Costello and Abbott caught up in the Chief's sales pitch for his tonic. Abbott and Costello, a comedy series on NBC and ABC, first aired on April 10, 1947.

Mostly in the city, including a nuts and bolts factory, a door-to-door sales route, and Chief Schmo's Indian Remedy Company office and a vacant lot where the tonic is sold.

Characters: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Chief Schmo, Marilyn Maxwell, Mrs. Wetwash

Listen for: Costello's misunderstandings of Abbott's questions and the repeated wordplay on nothing and nuts.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
