What happens

Ed Wendell, a newspaper columnist, rescues an elderly man from a brutal beating in the street and takes him home to his wife Nan and son Tommy. The stranger, who calls himself Mr. Ash, claims to be an otherworldly being banished to Earth, and he offers to prove it with a demonstration. Ed hopes to use the man as the eyewitness for a story exposing the city's handling of juvenile delinquency. The episode is part of the radio series X Minus One, first aired on August 8, 1957, and the cast includes Carl Weber as Ed and Wendell Holmes as Mr. Ash.

An American city in the 1950s, in the Wendell family home and at the police station.

Listen for: Mr. Ash's claim that he is a banished being from another world, and the shape-changing demonstration in the living room.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
