What happens
Sam Yoder, a telephone lineman in Batesville, is startled when a voice on a party line calls him from a week and a half in the future and says it is him. Sam's girlfriend Rosie thinks he is playing a joke, but the caller knows details only Sam and Rosie share. The caller tells Sam about sports results and an upcoming bank robbery, and Sam begins to wonder whether the stranger can be trusted. This is an X Minus One episode from October 31, 1956, adapted from a Murray Leinster story. Rosie and Sam's relationship is tested as the strange calls continue.
Batesville and nearby towns, a small American town in the 1950s
Characters: Sam Yoder, Rosie, Sam's future self
Listen for: The strange calls between Sam and his future self, and Rosie's reactions to them
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
