What happens

Captain John Black leads a crew of seventeen men who land a naval spacecraft on Mars in the dark. At dawn they find a quiet small town with a white house, an iron deer on a lawn, and a family waiting for them. Captain Black and his officers, including Lieutenant Lustig and Dr. Horst, are welcomed by a woman who claims that the town is in 1928 Wisconsin, and then by the family of John Black himself. Lustig is drawn to the house and the family, and the officers begin to question what they see. The episode is from the X Minus One radio series, first broadcast on May 8, 1955, and is adapted from a story by Ray Bradbury.

Mars, at a landing site that becomes a small Midwestern-style town with a white house and lawn.

Listen for: The moment the crew realizes the town and family are not what they seem.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
