What happens

Frank Pake, an investigator for the Accountancy Branch, is assigned to look into Chandra Trancor, a healer whose cheap capsules seem to cure patients that real doctors cannot. Trancor is a fraud or a miracle worker, and the authorities have had no luck keeping track of him. Frank's own strange recovery from a nasal drip makes the case personal. Late at night he finds Trancor in a hotel, and their conversation turns to matters beyond ordinary medicine. Meanwhile Frank's wife Betty has gone out without him, and his marriage weighs on him throughout the night. The story is an X Minus One radio adaptation of Peter Phillips's Galaxy Science Fiction tale, broadcast on February 20, 1957, with Terry Keene among the cast.

New York City and London, in the present day of the 1950s

Characters: Frank Pake, Betty, Chandra Trancor, Sir Gravel Grey

Listen for: Trancor's cryptic remarks about his own nature and about how his people regard ours.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
