What happens
Robert Bradley, a gambler in San Francisco, inherits a large fortune after his cousin Gerald dies in a car accident. He moves into the mansion of his ailing uncle Michael, winning the old man's trust while the insurance company and Mr. Todd of the law office press him with questions. Robert begins to worry that his cousin's death may be drawing police attention, and his fortune depends on whether his uncle lives. Presented on The Whistler, an episode first broadcast on December 18, 1944, the story is told by the program's narrator and dramatized with the series' regular cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
