What happens

Martha Collins, an executive at a cosmetics firm, is confronted at a mountain cabin by Cecile Dumas, who has discovered she has been embezzling company funds. Cecile threatens to report the theft to the firm's backer, Jason Weatherby. Shortly afterward, Martha checks into a village inn and overhears the caretaker, Sam, making threats against Cecile at the bar. In The Whistler's "Trade Mark," broadcast January 28, 1951 on the West Coast, Martha begins to plan how the threats might be turned against someone else.

A rain-swept mountain road, a cabin above a village, and a village inn in the mountains.

Characters: Martha Collins, Cecile Dumas, Jason Weatherby, Sam, Ned Fuller, Mr. Henssel, The Sheriff

Listen for: Watch for the cigarette and the rare lipstick, and how Martha builds her alibi.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
