What happens

Nolan Norton, a newspaper columnist and assistant, visits her colleague Chuck Williams at his apartment late one night, and their argument over his column turns violent. Chuck is found dead below his third-floor balcony, and it is judged accidental. Months later Nolan has taken over his column and is connected to his former collaborator Paul Wallace, whose Broadway play has just failed. Paul arranges a party at Chuck's old building, and the guests begin to question what happened that night, while Nolan grows uneasy about the balcony and her missing emerald earring.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
