What happens

Ted Pomeroy visits his cousin Walter at a bachelor's club to ask for five thousand dollars to buy a small country newspaper, and Walter refuses him with mockery. The quarrel turns violent, leaving Walter injured, and Ted flees the building. Believing a woman who overheard their argument on the telephone could identify him, Ted searches Walter's address book, tracks her down by the sound of a passing parade, and tries to find her among the women in town. The Whistler series, first broadcast on March 13, 1949, has Rye Bilzberry, Doris Singleton and Joseph Kearns in the cast, as heard in the portion of the episode transcribed here.

A bachelor's club and the surrounding streets of a city, with a parade route, a residence hotel and a park.

Characters: Ted Pomeroy, Walter Pomeroy, Maxine, Bill Putnam, Dan Elby

Listen for: The telephone calls in which Ted tries to locate Maxine, and the clue of the passing marching band that helps him narrow down her location.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
