What happens

Gerald Wright, an ordinary citizen, grows desperate after losing Denise to another man and decides to end his life. Instead, he is drawn to the cause of crusading reporter Stephen North, who has been exposing a murder-for-hire ring. Gerald offers to help North, then secretly arranges to hire a killer in order to gather evidence against the gang. The Whistler series, first broadcast on February 25, 1948, presents this story with Elliot Lewis and Kay Brinker in the leading roles.

A city in the Pacific Coast states, in the late 1940s, including a drugstore on 10th Street, a newspaper office, St. Michael's Hospital, and a barbershop.

Characters: Gerald Wright, Stephen North, Denise Evans, Bob Sinclair, Ralston, Tommy Roy

Listen for: Listen for the moment Gerald realizes that the events he reads about in the newspaper mirror his own situation, and for the drive Denise takes after Bob's death.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
