What happens

Catherine Marley runs a rooming house on Upper Jackson Street in San Francisco with her partner Alex, and their lodger Carl Penel has recently come into money. When a seaman, Fred Rawlings, arrives looking for Penel and notices an old trunk, Catherine and Alex grow anxious. The couple moves the trunk away, and Catherine's nerves rise as the situation becomes harder to control. The story follows their attempts to keep the trunk and the secret hidden as Rawlings's presence in the house grows more troubling.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
