What happens
Alma Germain, a retired film star, turns down a lucrative acting offer from producer Oscar Dahl and announces her engagement to newspaper publisher Neil Roberts. Neil's sister Louise Roberts distrusts Alma and has hired a detective to investigate her past. Alma senses the threat and presses ahead with plans to marry quickly. This episode of The Whistler, first broadcast on August 20, 1947, is the sort of mystery where a character's secret past becomes a danger to her future.
Hollywood, California, in the late 1940s, at the homes and swimming pools of Alma Germain and Neil Roberts.

Listen for: Listen for Alma's shifting moods around Louise, and for what Louise says about Alma's past.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
