What happens

Milton Strong, a meek bookkeeper in New York, is told he is being retired on half pay instead of receiving the raise he came to request. His wife Martha berates him for his spinelessness and takes charge of their money. Brooding through the night, Milton withdraws cash from the bank and leaves for the West, where he reaches a mining town and meets a prospector named Rogers and his wife Kate. At their claim he discovers a dead man who resembles him, and the story follows the choices he makes next with the body and the money.

Listen for: Milton's confrontation with his wife Martha and the moment he discovers the dead man in the cabin and begins to switch identities.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
