What happens
Louise Merritt returns to Europe-bound travel on an ocean liner with her husband Larry, still shaken after a recent breakdown. Passengers seem to watch her, and she fears that Larry is steering her toward another collapse. A three-month-old memory of a shipboard roommate, Helen Blake, unsettles her further, while she searches for a letter from the doctors that might show whether she is fit to travel. Her confusion grows as the captain, a steward and the ship's doctor each appear to react to her strangely. The episode is an installment of the radio drama series Suspense, with Joan Lorring and Leon Janney in the leading roles, written by Francis Rickett.
An ocean liner crossing from Europe, with the passengers' cabins, the decks and the ship's infirmary.
Characters: Louise Merritt, Larry Merritt, Captain Woodbridge, Dr. Hunter, Helen Blake, Mary
Listen for: Louise's shifting certainty about what was said to whom, and what Larry is really telling her about the letter and the voyage.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
