What happens
Bob Pendrel, an analytical chemist, is drawn into a wager with his wealthy stepfather, John Destry, who offers $25,000 if Pendrel can survive six months under strict conditions while Destry attempts to kill him. The story is part of the Suspense series, which was broadcast in 1942; the original air date is November 10, 1942. Pendrel meets Betty Andrews on a boat ride through a haunted mill and tells her about the bet, which he believes will be decided within hours. Destry has harassed him with unsettling gifts and threats, and Pendrel grows increasingly unnerved as the deadline approaches. The lead actors are not named in the transcript beyond the episode's cast announcements, which are not included here.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
