What happens
Jefferson Casey, a drifter, walks into the small town of Marcus Junction in the summer heat and has his shoes repaired by a shoemaker while he waits. He meets Benjamin Martin, a large, friendly sheriff, and later visits a restaurant where a waitress named Rachel serves him coffee. Drinking with Rachel upstairs in her apartment, Jefferson blacks out. When he comes to, Rachel lies dead, and Kenny, a cook from the restaurant, accuses him of the murder. Jefferson flees barefoot through the heat, pursued by Benjamin, who is still searching for him as the afternoon wears on. This is the Suspense radio drama Too Hot to Live, broadcast June 29, 1954, starring Sam Edwards.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
