What happens

A young woman, recovering from a nervous depression, is taken by her physician husband John to a rented summer house. Confined to a nursery room at the top of the house, she becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper and the shapes she believes move behind it. Her husband and her sister-in-law Jenny keep her under close watch, and her condition seems to worsen. The episode is an adaptation of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story The Yellow Wallpaper, broadcast on the Suspense series on July 29, 1948, with Agnes Moorehead in the lead.

Characters: Agnes Moorehead, John, Jenny

Listen for: The narrator's growing certainty about the figure behind the wallpaper, and the tense exchanges with John and Jenny

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
