What happens

Billy the Kid and his companion Charlie Poulter are trapped inside the McSweeney house, which is burning around them. Old man McSweeney sits reading his Bible while the two outlaws weigh their chances of escaping to the woods. Billy takes a last smoke and urges Charlie to make a break for it. Part of the episode turns to Pat Garrett and the aftermath of the killings, with Billy reflecting on how the blame has fallen on him. This is the Suspense series, first broadcast on April 28, 1952, with Frank Lovejoy in the lead role.

The McSweeney house, surrounded by fire, and later the mountains and the Lincoln County region of the American Southwest

Listen for: Billy's exchange with McSweeney as he holds up a Bible to the gunmen outside, and his later talk with Pat Garrett

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
