What happens
Diplomat Richardson and his household on Zanzibar are visited at night by a self-proclaimed witch doctor who claims to carry a British Foreign Office letter. Nyoka, the servant, warns of a feared sorcerer moving through the mainland, while drums sound and fires burn across the water. The visitor, who performs stage magic, is joined by Dr. Schmidt, a German trade agent. Tensions rise as the group learns that the Sultan Sayyid Khalif has been mauled in a lion's cage and may still be alive. Dr. Schmidt and the visitor confront the household about a plan involving a German gunboat in the harbor. This is Suspense, a CBS radio drama of 1942-10-27, based on a story by John Dixon Carr.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
