What happens

Peter Marriott, a well-dressed gentleman in England, is suspected by Scotland Yard of being the Squire, a jewel thief who has stolen fortunes from wealthy victims over five years. Detectives watch him closely as he attends parties hosted by people the Squire has robbed. Marriott keeps company with Ginny Hibbert, a young woman from a much humbler world, and their relationship raises the detectives' suspicions further. The episode is a Suspense play, broadcast on CBS, and the lead is James Mason, with Pamela Colino also appearing. The story follows the investigation as the evidence stays frustratingly inconclusive.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
