What happens

Captain Robert Falcon Scott leads four companions on a return march from the South Pole after discovering that the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen has already reached it. The men struggle across the frozen wastes, rationing food and fuel while facing exhaustion, frostbite and worsening weather. Their supply plans begin to unravel as the season turns, and their journal entries grow more desperate. Captain Scott records each day's progress and setbacks in his diary. This episode of Suspense, broadcast on February 28, 1956, stars Ben Wright and dramatizes the true story of the expedition.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
