What happens

Hank Lathrop, a man struggling after losing his job, grows increasingly unstable while his wife Beth tries to hold their marriage together. Hank is drawn into the newspaper coverage of a series of murders, and his mood darkens sharply during a tense evening out. Beth grows frightened and turns to Dr. Broughton for advice about her husband's condition. This Suspense episode, first broadcast on October 1, 1951, is a dramatic report based on a medical case study, with Jean Crane as Beth and William Conrad as Hank.

Chicago, during a hot summer; the Lathrops' apartment on the south side and a neighborhood bar

Characters: Hank Lathrop, Beth Lathrop, Dr. Broughton

Listen for: Hank's increasingly agitated reactions to the newspaper murder stories, and Beth's growing uncertainty about her husband's state of mind

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
