What happens

Mrs. Elbert Stevenson, an invalid alone in her New York house while her husband works late, accidentally overhears a telephone conversation between two men planning the murder of a woman near a bridge. Growing increasingly frightened, she calls the operator and then the police, trying to convince them that a murder is about to happen and that she must act quickly. Her efforts to raise the alarm are met with confusion, delay and bureaucratic obstacles. This is Suspense, the radio drama series, and the play is presented on September 6, 1945 with Agnes Moorehead in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
