What happens

Suspense presents See How He Runs, broadcast on April 19, 1959, starring Jim Backus. Poppy, a blind newsstand vendor with a criminal past, is questioned by police detectives after the murder of Ed Barker, a syndicate man. The detectives press Poppy for names, and he insists he knows nothing, while they suggest that the syndicate has now marked him for death. Poppy is released and soon hires a boy named Bobby to guide him through the streets, relying on the boy's eyes because he cannot see. Their walk takes them toward the river and a warehouse, and Poppy depends on Bobby to watch for anyone following them.

A city where a newsstand operates on a corner, with a police station, a riverside warehouse, and a street of tenements.

Characters: Poppy, Ed Barker, Bobby, Al, Wayne

Listen for: Listen for how Poppy's blindness shapes what he hears and how he tests the police, and for the detectives' pressure on him to name names.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
