What happens
James Howard, a research fellow in pathology, leaves a recorded message for Dr. Warren Bader, the only scientist he trusts to help him. Howard has been working alone at night on a theory about cancer cell growth, and after an accident in the laboratory he is shrinking steadily. Unable to reach Dr. Bader by phone, he records detailed instructions for reversing the process and prepares a microscope slide as a last refuge. As his size falls, he reflects on his lonely life and the small world of his room, including his pet parakeet Pastor. The broadcast is a Suspense drama first heard on February 1, 1959, starring Richard Beals.
A cheap furnished room and a laboratory at a State University medical school, present day, as James Howard shrinks
Characters: James Howard, Dr. Warren Bader, Ms. Prichard, Dr. Pastor
Listen for: Howard's recorded message and his calls to Dr. Bader's office as he steadily shrinks
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
