What happens

Sam, an actor, is rehearsing a play under the direction of Norman, who has been taking his role of the bell ringer away from him. After a bitter argument in which Sam threatens him, Sam buys a gun and shoots Norman in an alley outside the theater. Sam is arrested and has a lawyer, and he tries to plead temporary insanity. To pass the insanity test, he decides to act out a homicidal maniac, first by recalling a childhood memory and then by hurting himself in a hospital cell. The episode is part of the Suspense series, with Vincent Price starring.

A theater during a rehearsal, a city alley, a police station and lawyer's office, and a psychiatric hospital cell.

Characters: Sam, Norman, Luther, Murph, Doctor

Listen for: Sam's attempts to act out insanity and the doctors' final judgment on his sanity.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
