What happens
Detective Lieutenant Mark Dugglin, passed over for a promotion, investigates the stabbing of a man in a gambling club in Manhattan. The victim had recently quarreled with Kendall Payne, a war hero, who has vanished. Dugglin tracks Payne's girlfriend, Morgan Taylor, to Connecticut, and the two share a drive back to the city. Meanwhile the police follow witness accounts and evidence that point in unexpected directions. This is an episode of the radio drama Suspense, first broadcast on October 7, 1948, starring Ray Milan.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
