What happens
Rice Archer, a junior partner in the Hennigan company in Amesville, returns from a business trip to the city and waits anxiously for news about Tom Hennigan, the senior partner. Archer repeatedly checks with the hotel and the office, following a written notebook of procedures he has prepared. As he tries to keep his composure and appear normal to his colleagues, he grows increasingly uneasy, and the orderly plan in his notebook begins to feel fragile. Edmund Gwen stars in this episode of Suspense, a radio thriller broadcast in 1949 under the sponsorship of Autolite. The story is built around one man's careful attempt to control events and his own conscience.

Characters: Rice Archer, Tom Hennigan, Clark Henley, Thomasina, Miss Gordon, Roger
Listen for: Archer's notebook, which lists each step of his procedure and is read aloud through the episode
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
