What happens

In Prague, Czechoslovakia, a young university student named Enric is expelled and interrogated by Communist authorities after being caught with a forbidden book. His fiancée Melada wants them to escape together, and they decide to flee to freedom on foot. Carrying a bottle of poison in case they are caught, the two travel on foot toward the border, facing hunger, cold, and exhaustion. The story is presented as a dramatization of a true account, with names changed to protect survivors still imprisoned. The episode is drawn from a Suspense radio play starring Charlotte Lawrence and Sam Edwards, and the original air date was February 14, 1956.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
