What happens

Hollis, a third-class crewman on a cargo spaceship, is in the control room when the vessel begins to malfunction, and the captain, Applegate, is drinking in his cabin. When the rockets fail, the crew must abandon ship, but the ship explodes before everyone can prepare. The surviving men are flung into space, each drifting alone, and they remain connected only by radio. As their voices fade one by one, they speak of their lives, their regrets, and their fears of dying far from home. This episode of Suspense, first broadcast on July 12, 1955, is adapted from a story by Ray Bradbury and stars William Conrad.

Listen for: The crew's voices over the radio as the men drift apart, and Hollis's final conversation.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
