What happens
Wilfred Katman's family is visited by an insurance agent, who arranges coverage on the couple's children. Katman's mother sits with the agent, and the younger son, Willie, is said to suffer from asthma. Later, the agent is drawn into a police matter involving the death of the boy, and the assistant district attorney, Morgan, questions the father about the household and the family's history. The episode is Suspense's "Infanticide", dramatized by Alan Sloan from a story by Eliezer Lipsky, first broadcast on October 11, 1959.
A tenement apartment in a city, during a muggy summer, and later a police station.
Characters: Wilfred Katman, Mrs. Katman, Willie, Chauncey, John, Morgan
Listen for: The mother's remarks about Willie and the asthma, and Morgan's questions to the father about the boy's family history.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
