What happens

Paul Bentley, a pianist at Mario's in Brooklyn, wants a fresh start and learns he is still married to Martha Lathrop, a writer who has just returned from ten years abroad. He visits her home on Gramercy Park, where she is pale, frightened and guarded, and a large parrot sits in its cage. Their bitter conversation shows she has refused him a divorce. Paul then acquires poison, and a question of guilt and motive hangs over the events that follow. The series is Suspense, first broadcast on November 7, 1946, and the lead is Jack Carson.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
