What happens
Dr. Rankin, a doctor in the village of Sudbury, has married Irene, and his troubles begin after she vanishes. Two of the villagers, George and Greg, learn something about the cellar of his house and begin pressing him for help. A commercial traveler named Harry Manning appears in town asking for Irene, and the doctor tries to keep things under control. Suspense, first broadcast on February 10, 1949, is the series setting, and this play is performed by Charles Laughton. The story builds through the village's growing suspicion and the uneasy friendships around the doctor.

Listen for: The doctor's conversations with George and Greg about the cellar and Irene's whereabouts
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
