What happens

George and Myra Pettit rent a beach cottage for the summer, but their quarrels over money, the heat and the public beach outside their home grow sharper. Myra insists that a neighbouring couple, the Sullivans, be driven off the sand, and George reluctantly goes along with her demands. A courtroom scene follows, and the Pettits return home more bitter and unsettled than before. Tension mounts as Myra keeps pressing George to act against the couple, and the story turns to the pressures between the two of them.

A beach cottage on a public beach, and a courtroom in a seaside town, during a hot summer.

Characters: George Pettit, Myra Pettit, Sullivan girl, Judge

Listen for: Myra's constant pressure on George to act against the people on the beach, and George's growing agitation.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
